There are no words to describe how much I love these boys.

 

I had no idea. Before I had kids I had no idea how profound my love for them would be. I've heard people talk about it, but I couldn't help feeling like no one told me or warned me. I know now that it is because there are no words to describe it and no measure to compare it to. It's just not something a person is capable of understanding until they are holding their baby and experiencing it.

When Kellan was born, I was completely overwhelmed by how fiercely I loved him. I have never loved anything more in my life so intensely. The enormity of it scared me. It still scares me. I couldn't imagine loving anyone or anything else anywhere near as much as I loved him. His birth was when my eyes were truly opened to what real, raw, unconditional love is and I realized, to my horror, how absolutely devastating it would be if anything happened to him and why my mom was so "ridiculously overprotective" of me. I get the term "mama bear" now, when before I thought it was just cutesy. It's very real and quite descriptive of how fiercely a mama protects her babies.

When I was pregnant with Aven, like most 2nd time mamas, I still worried that I couldn't love another child like I did my first. I couldn't imagine that it was possible. It seems silly now that I worried about that because as soon as he was born, I felt that exact same fierce, intense love for him too. It was no different and no less and just as overwhelming as it was with his brother.

 

Several of my friends, now pregnant with their 2nd child, ask "Will I love this baby as much as my first?" You will. I promise you, you will. Just like you couldn't prepare for how much you loved your first baby, it will blindside you and overwhelm you and sweep you off your feet and bring you to tears because of its enormity. There is nothing sweeter.

Oh, happy day!

It was such a beautiful day today, so Kellan and I walked to the park to feed the ducks! At first there were just a few...


But they told their friends...


Kellan didn't quite understand the concept of feeding the ducks, so he ate the bread too.


I think he had fun anyway, though he did start getting angry that the ducks were getting more bread than he was towards the end.


We played on the swings for awhile afterwards and then walked home so that we could eat lunch and hang out with baby Liam and Chase.


The boys played in the pool for a while. Well, Chase and Kellan did. Liam was content to watch from the sidelines and play with his feet. And practice standing.







Such a fun day! Mama is tired, but up late packing for our trip tomorrow. Washington, here we come!

Fluffy Friday!

Ok, yes this is posted on Saturday, but it was Fluffy Friday! Yesterday, I we received both Kellan's custom Dr. Seuss diaper from The Giving Tree and his Crawler Covers from Etsy! We had a rough day yesterday (Kellan's fighting a double ear infection), so this was a nice surprise.

I am prepping this diaper like a mad woman so that he can wear it ASAP! I've been wanting a custom from The Giving Tree forever. The Giving Tree is a WAHM shop on Hyena Cart and the owner, Jessica, makes amazing diapers! She has some of the cutest prints around and does a fabulous job on them. She is a former NICU nurse and part of the proceeds from each diaper she sells goes to support The Children's Miracle Network.

I have been on the fence about baby legs for a boy. I love, love, love them on little girls, but boys I wasn't sold on. And then I discovered Crawler Covers thanks to someone mentioning them on one of my parenting forums. They are too cute and I LOVE how they look on Kellan! I don't think they look girly at all, though my dad wasn't a fan when he saw them. I also love that they fit from newborn through 8 years old. (Though, I'm betting they'd be pretty big on a newborn.) It's so hard to find cute accessories and things for boys, so I'm always thrilled when I finally find something fun!
